Background of the Study
Financial globalization refers to the integration of national financial markets into a global system, facilitating cross-border capital flows, diversified investment opportunities, and standardized regulatory practices. Wema Bank has actively pursued financial globalization by engaging in international markets, adopting global best practices, and leveraging technological advancements to enhance its investment banking operations (Onyekachi, 2023). This integration enables the bank to access broader funding sources, diversify its risk, and improve liquidity management. Globalization has also spurred the adoption of innovative financial products and services, which have contributed to enhanced market competitiveness. However, increased global exposure introduces risks such as currency fluctuations, regulatory inconsistencies, and heightened market volatility. This study examines the effects of financial globalization on Wema Bank’s investment banking practices by analyzing changes in operational performance, risk management, and strategic decision-making. The research evaluates the benefits and challenges of operating in a globally integrated financial market, providing insights into how globalization influences profitability and competitiveness.

Statement of the Problem
Wema Bank faces significant challenges in managing the risks associated with financial globalization. A primary issue is the increased exposure to international market volatility and currency risks, which can disrupt asset valuations and liquidity (Chinwe, 2023). Additionally, aligning local operational practices with global standards poses difficulties, particularly in terms of regulatory compliance and technology integration. The complexity of managing cross-border transactions and the need for continuous adaptation to global market shifts further complicate strategic decision-making. These challenges can undermine the potential benefits of globalization, such as diversified funding and improved risk management, thereby affecting overall investment banking performance. This study seeks to identify the key obstacles to effective financial globalization at Wema Bank and evaluate their impact on operational outcomes.

Objectives of the Study
– To evaluate the impact of financial globalization on Wema Bank’s investment banking practices.
– To identify challenges related to market volatility and regulatory alignment.
– To propose strategies for enhancing global integration benefits.

Research Questions

– What challenges arise from increased international exposure?
– What measures can mitigate the risks of financial globalization?

Research Hypotheses
